DESCRIPTION:Gibbs Farm MEA Detective Camps \n1 or 2 Day Camp Options \nCampers ages 6-10 \n$49 for 1 day \n$80 for both days \nRegistration is closed. \nNature Detectives: Thursday\, 18th of October 8am-4pm \nCalling all outdoor adventurers! Campers will be nature detectives as we explore the outdoors. We will search for clues to tell us what creatures are living in the restored Gibbs prairie\, eavesdrop on birds\, inspect different kinds of leaves\, and examine woolie bear caterpillars to investigate if they really can predict the weather.  Campers will make works of art out of natural materials and be introduced to the Gibbs Farm animals! \nHistory Detectives: Friday\, 18th of October 8am-4pm \nThe mystery of history! Campers will be history sleuths as we explore the methods historians use to understand the past. Archaeology and primary source activities will reveal how some of this information can be uncovered. We will inspect the historic Gibbs Farmhouse and the one-room schoolhouse to make observations on how they might have been used. Whether learning about pioneer life in 1849 through this dig\, or searching for the Dakota trail that crossed the Gibbs farm\, archaeology has played an important role at the Gibbs historic site for years.\nCampers will learn about archaeology\, participate in hands-on digs at the site and much more. DESCRIPTION:Tea Party on the Lawn\nSaturday\, June 23rd\nTwo sessions: 11am and 1pm\nJoin us at a late morning or mid-afternoon tea on the front lawn of the old Gibbs Farmhouse. Costumed Gibbs Farm Staff will serve tea\, lemonade\, and treats while giving guests an introduction to Victorian Era mannerisms. \nPre-registration and payment is required. $10 adults; $9 Seniors; $8 Children 4-16; Free for 3 and under. RCHS Member are free! \nRegistration closed. \nBonus: The Outdoor Painters of Minnesota will be on site all day. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday-Thursday; June 19-21\n9:00 am-1:00 pm\n$99\nGirls Ages 6-10\nThree Days\, Three Experiences: Life as a Pioneer girl\, Dakota girl and Victorian girl. Campers discover what the lives of pioneer girls\, Dakota girls and Victorian girls were like in the 1800s. This craft-based camp offers girls a first-hand appreciation of the daily lives of girls in days gone by.\nSome activities include attending a quilting bee\, creating a yarn doll\, dipping candles and square dancing on Pioneer day\, putting up a tipi\, beading and making cornhusk dolls on Dakota day\, and “taking tea” and making tussie-mussies following a nature walk on Victorian day.\nBring a bag lunch each day.\nEach Thursday\, campers will hold an open house for their families. Open house begins at 12:30 and all family members are invited as our guests! \nGibbs Girl Camp is also offered Tuesday- Thursday\, August 7-9\, August 21-23\, and August 28-30. \nClick here to register!

They will also get a special treat\, our famous homemade ice cream. \nHalf Day: $29\nFull Day: $49 \nImportant Note: If you would like to register for a Day Camp within 2 days of the start of camp\,\nplease call the Gibbs Farm directly at 651-646-8629 to register. \nOur camps are held rain or shine – dress for the weather! DESCRIPTION:Join us on Fridays at Gibbs Farm to explore a craft\, garden or kitchen heritage topic\, focusing on the lives of the pioneers and of the Dakota people who lived and visited at Gibbs Farm. \nFridays\, 10:00 am-4:00 pm \n\nJune 9\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Pest Control and Maintenance\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day.\nTwo presentations about pests and maintenance. Staff will lead an apple craft for children.\nJune 16\, 2017 – Dakota Moons\nArtist and Site Interpreter Peggy Stern will prepare a demonstration and hands on art activity based on the Dakota Moons. Two presentation times.\nJune 23\, 2017 – Dakota Trade Day\nPresentation by staff in Bark lodge with the Gibbs Dakota Collection about Dakota trade followed by bracelet making activity. Quillwork and Beadmaking Demonstration with resident Dakota artist David Louis at 2:30 pm\, his presentation is on-going\, drop in when you like.\nJune 30\, 2017- Pioneer and Dakota Cooking \nDemonstrations of cooking on outdoor wood stove\, and over a campfire. Two demonstrations\, 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.\nJuly 7\, 2017 – Animal Day\nVisitors can take an animal tour in addition to Dakota and Farmhouse tours. Say hello to our Pigs\, Goats\, Sheep\, Chickens\, Geese and Ducks. Learn about farm animals in Pioneer times.\nJuly 14\, 2017 – Blacksmithing\nTerry Robertson is a retired dentist who has been participating in blacksmithing at Gibbs for over 40 years. There will be a chance for audience participation while she demonstrates blacksmithing techniques on her coal-fired forge.\nJuly 21\, 2017 – Turtle Medicine Garden Day\nTwo presentations about native plants and their uses\, based on research and work done on our Medicine Garden this year thanks to a grant from the St. Paul Garden Club.\nJuly 28\, 2017 – Pioneer and Dakota Game Day\nStaff will lead games played by Pioneer and Dakota children\, and a crafting activity.\nAugust 4\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Apple Varieties\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day.
