DESCRIPTION:Congratulations to the winners of the 2016 Virginia B. Kunz Award for publishing! \nVirginia B. Kunz Award\nWe would like to congratulate the nominees and winner of the 2016 RCHS Virginia Kunz Award\, awarded for the best articles in Ramsey County History magazine over a two-year period\, in this case for the eight issues released in 2014 and 2015. The Virginia B. Kunz Award for Best Article was awarded to Donald Empson\, for his article\, “The History of the Mississippi River Boulevard\,” (Vol. 49\, #2\, Summer 2014). The other Virginia Kunz Award nominees were Eileen R. McCormack\, “Robert C. Minor: Steward on James J. Stolpestad\, author of Custom House: Restoring a St. Paul Landmark in Lowertown and publisher Ramsey County Historical Society have been awarded a 2016 Award of Merit Leadership in History Award by the American Association for State & Local History (AASLH). The AASLH Leadership in History Awards are the nation’s most prestigious competition for recognition of achievement in state and local history. \nThe Award of Merit is presented for excellence in history programs\, projects\, and people. The Leadership in History Awards Program was initiated in 1945 to build standards of excellence in the collection\, preservation\, and interpretation of state and local history throughout America.\n\n“The Leadership in History Awards is AASLH’s highest distinction and the winners represent the best in the field\,” said Trina Nelson Thomas\, AASLH Awards Chair and Director\, Stark Art & History Venue\, Stark Foundation. “This year\, we are pleased to distinguish each recipient’s commitment and innovation to the interpretation of history\, as well as their leadership for the future of state and local history.”\n\n\nThe Award will be presented at the AASLH Annual Meeting in Detroit on September 16\, 2016.
