Please note that the cost of the event does not include the cost of a tintype portrait; see rates below. \n$10 \n\nSOLD OUT\n\nRamsey County Historical Society presents History Revealed – Blkk Hand – Tintype Photography\, featuring a conversation with renowned artist\, Carla Alexandra Rodriguez. In her St. Paul studio\, Carla will share the stories behind her work and why she continues to uphold this traditional method of photography. Those interested in getting a portrait taken will be allowed to have one captured at the end of the event for a fee. \nCost\n4×5 tintype – $100\n5×7 tintype – $125\n8×10 tintype – $170 \nMore information here. \nCarla will schedule on site for this event\, so no need to book a session ahead of time. \nBlkk Hand \nBlkk Hand is a portrait studio and pop-up experience that specializes in a Civil War era photo-process called Tintype. Run by artist Carla Alexandra Rodriguez\, each image is chemically handmade\, one at a time\, a results in a one-of-a-kind image that has the potential to last generations. Rodriguez has been working with this process for over 11 years in the twin cities and beyond\, utilizing it for portraits as well as her personal art practice.

SUMMARY:August Make a Flower Press
DESCRIPTION:Come build a Flower Press at Gibbs Farm! Pressing flowers is an “old fashioned” craft that is coming back in style. This class is perfect for gardeners\, nature lovers and those who like to use natural materials in crafts and projects. You can use you dried pressed flowers in an endless variety of crafts (last year we decorated beeswax candles\, ornaments and cards) \nTickets Here\nWe will walk you through the steps to measure\, drill and assemble your press. Participants will have the chance to safely use power drills. Absolutely no experience necessary\, staff will assist based on everyone’s skill and comfort level. \nAfter assembling our press we will head out on to the 8-acre site and collect a variety of flowers and foliage to press. This is a chance to observe familiar flowers and recognize the beauty of things we often overlook! Last year’s surprise favorites were strawberry leaves\, asparagus fronds\, creeping charlie and individual hydrangea petals! \nFinally\, we will get creative and use Mod Podge to decorate the presses using material collected at Gibbs! \nThis program is geared for adults and kids 12+. Younger children are welcome to attend with an adult\, but will need extra one-on-one help from their grown-up! We will have the materials to create one press per registration.

DESCRIPTION:Join a 45-minute walking tour through the Gibbs Farm site lead by Master Naturalists Cathy Croghan and Kathy Robbins. The tour tallest trees (Burr Oak\, Black Walnut) and some of our newer additions (Tamarack and American Hazelnut)! Learn how these Minnesota trees were used for food\, medicine and shelter by the Dakota and settlers. This event is geared for adults or tree-lovers 12+ but all ages are welcome. \nPre-Register Here!\nGibbs Farm is open to the public on Fridays from 12-3 and Saturdays from 10-4 this summer. The Tree Tour is included in regular Saturday admission price. As always RCHS\, members visit Gibbs Farm at no cost. \nWalk-ins are welcome but you can also reserve your tour spot by pre-paying admission online\, or by calling the Gibbs Farm Office at 651-646-8629. After the Tour\, stick around to take a history tour or enjoy the prairie on your own\, we suggest bringing a camera\, snack or picnic! \n  \n

A delicious three course dinner is provided by Chef Weston Smith and Chef Catherine Olsen with courses dedicated to a harvest directly from the Gibbs Farm garden. \nGuests will be able to enjoy a happy hour with complimentary wine and beer in the courtyard with music provided by Chris Koza\, followed by a staff-guided tour of Gibbs Farm. \nNot an RCHS member? Join today! \n \nLocal Effort\nBased in Roseville\, Local Effort is led by chef team Weston Smith and Catherine Olsen. They cook for small events with a special focus on locally grown and produced ingredients\, especially from Minnesota or Wisconsin. \nWeston makes beautiful sourdough breads\, pizza\, bean-to-bar chocolate\, and memorable meats like duck mortadella. He’s especially interested in nutrition and well sourced ingredients in home cooking. Catherine is a Minneapolis native and a local restaurant veteran. She makes fresh handmade pastas and beautiful cakes and pastry\, and has a gift for thoughtful\, sincere hospitality. Local Effort makes American food with midwestern ingredients\, combining restaurant techniques with a home cook’s sensibility.

DESCRIPTION:12pm-3pm \nA day of programs just for homeschool students and their educators! Visit the Gibbs Farm historic site and learn about the seasonal life of the Dakota of Cloud Man’s village and the early Minnesota farm life of Jane & Heman Gibbs. On going activities include visiting the historic farmhouse\, replica bark lodge\, and a tipi. One-room schoolhouse lessons will take place several times throughout the day. \nThe gift shop will also be open specially for this day! \nPlease note that parents must accompany their children at all times while on the historic site. Picnic tables will be available for picnic lunches (please note that there is no food for sale on site). \n$8 per student 3 and older \n$5 per adult \nChildren 2 and under are free of charge \nPre-register or pay on the day of the event. DESCRIPTION:  \nHelp us tackle our to-do list! Volunteer at Gibbs Farm on select Friday Mornings and Tuesday Evenings during the 2025 season. The outdoor projects change weekly usually planting\, watering\, weeding\, harvesting\, light landscape and orchard projects. \n  \nProjects best for ages 6+ and are great for students\, families\, small groups (workplace teams\, clubs\, scouts\, 4-H ect.) and individuals. Children under 12 should sign up with an adult. \nNo experience necessary! Projects will be lead by Gibbs Farm staff and all supplies\, materials and instructions are provided. \nHave a question or need to cancel your registration? Email Clare @ RCHS.com. \nDay of Instructions: \nVolunteers should park in the Gibbs Farm public parking lot of Cleveland Ave and enter the site through the wooden gates\, Clare will meet you there! \nPlease wear close-toed shoes and clothes you can work in. \nThere are bathrooms and a drinking fountain with water bottle filler on site.
