DESCRIPTION:Join us on Fridays at Gibbs Farm to explore a craft\, garden or kitchen heritage topic\, focusing on the lives of the pioneers and of the Dakota people who lived and visited at Gibbs Farm. \nFridays\, 10:00 am-4:00 pm \n\nJune 9\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Pest Control and Maintenance\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day.\nTwo presentations about pests and maintenance. Staff will lead an apple craft for children.\nJune 16\, 2017 – Dakota Moons\nArtist and Site Interpreter Peggy Stern will prepare a demonstration and hands on art activity based on the Dakota Moons. Two presentation times.\nJune 23\, 2017 – Dakota Trade Day\nPresentation by staff in Bark lodge with the Gibbs Dakota Collection about Dakota trade followed by bracelet making activity. Quillwork and Beadmaking Demonstration with resident Dakota artist David Louis at 2:30 pm\, his presentation is on-going\, drop in when you like.\nJune 30\, 2017- Pioneer and Dakota Cooking \nDemonstrations of cooking on outdoor wood stove\, and over a campfire. Two demonstrations\, 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.\nJuly 7\, 2017 – Animal Day\nVisitors can take an animal tour in addition to Dakota and Farmhouse tours. Say hello to our Pigs\, Goats\, Sheep\, Chickens\, Geese and Ducks. Learn about farm animals in Pioneer times.\nJuly 14\, 2017 – Blacksmithing\nTerry Robertson is a retired dentist who has been participating in blacksmithing at Gibbs for over 40 years. There will be a chance for audience participation while she demonstrates blacksmithing techniques on her coal-fired forge.\nJuly 21\, 2017 – Turtle Medicine Garden Day\nTwo presentations about native plants and their uses\, based on research and work done on our Medicine Garden this year thanks to a grant from the St. Paul Garden Club.\nJuly 28\, 2017 – Pioneer and Dakota Game Day\nStaff will lead games played by Pioneer and Dakota children\, and a crafting activity.\nAugust 4\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Apple Varieties\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day. Two presentations and tastings. Staff will lead an apple craft for children.\nAugust 11\, 2017 – School House\nSchoolhouse program with “Ms. Lake.” Two presentation times TBA.\nAugust 18\, 2017 – Bees\nBell museum staff will have a table and honeybees from 1-4 pm.\nGibbs Farm will lead a candle dipping activity every hour.\nAugust 25\, 2017 – Archaeology\nSite interpreter Kassie Bradshaw-Kmitch will lead a presentation on the 1995 Soddy Archaeological dig. Visitors will be able to view artifacts from the dig.\n\n\nAdmission: $8 adults\, $7 seniors 62+\, $5 children ages 4-16. Free for RCHS members. \nEach topic will include a brief history and hands-on activity to take home. Each camp covers one pioneer or Dakota-related topic and includes an activity and a craft to take home. Snack included.\nPioneer PeeWees Online Registration Form \nPioneer PeeWees Camp Topics for 2017\n6/21- All about Sheep!\nCampers will learn all about how sheep were used on a pioneer farm. PeeWees will get to make and take home a pompom sheep!\n6/28- All about Pigs!\nCampers will get to know our two friendly pigs and learn why animals like them were important to pioneers. These PeeWees will make a pig-shaped cookie to take home!\n7/12- Ducks\, Geese\, and Chickens…Oh My!\nCampers will learn all about the different farm birds at Gibbs Farm. PeeWees will create their own chicken friend out of hollowed out eggs!\n7/19- What’s Alive on the Prairie?\nCampers will go on a scavenger hunt to see what critters (bugs\, animals\, or flowers) they can find in the prairie. PeeWees will get to take home their own nature journal!\n7/26- Pioneer Gardens\nCampers will take a walk through our Pioneer Garden and learn about the plants growing there. PeeWees will help our gardener by picking some of the ripe vegetables and then they’ll decorate their own clay pots to plant seeds in!\n8/2- All about Bees\nCampers will learn all about these important pollinators and how pioneers collected honey to eat and wax to make candles. PeeWees will dip a real beeswax candle to take home!\n8/9- Pioneer Chores\nCampers will get to go back in time in our Historic Farmhouse to participate in everyday pioneer chores like doin’ the wash and making butter. PeeWees will weave their own mini rag rugs just like pioneer women would have made!\n8/16- Bark Lodge and the Hunt\nCampers will go on a scavenger hunt for different animal hides that they’ll trade for beads. They’ll also learn about the Bark Lodge\, the type of home where the Dakota lived in the summer. PeeWees will bead their own Dakota bracelet!\n8/23- Tipi Life and Buffalo Nation\nCampers will experience what winter life in the Tipi was like for the Dakota. These PeeWees will hear a traditional Dakota story about the importance of the buffalo and will make their own mini tipi to take home!\n8/30- One-Room Schoolhouse\nCampers will experience what lessons were like in a one-room schoolhouse. PeeWees will help our gardener by picking some of the ripe vegetables and then they’ll decorate their own clay pots to plant seeds in!\n8/2- All about Bees\nCampers will learn all about these important pollinators and how pioneers collected honey to eat and wax to make candles. PeeWees will dip a real beeswax candle to take home!\n8/9- Pioneer Chores\nCampers will get to go back in time in our Historic Farmhouse to participate in everyday pioneer chores like doin’ the wash and making butter. PeeWees will weave their own mini rag rugs just like pioneer women would have made!\n8/16- Bark Lodge and the Hunt\nCampers will go on a scavenger hunt for different animal hides that they’ll trade for beads. They’ll also learn about the Bark Lodge\, the type of home where the Dakota lived in the summer. PeeWees will help our gardener by picking some of the ripe vegetables and then they’ll decorate their own clay pots to plant seeds in!\n8/2- All about Bees\nCampers will learn all about these important pollinators and how pioneers collected honey to eat and wax to make candles. PeeWees will dip a real beeswax candle to take home!\n8/9- Pioneer Chores\nCampers will get to go back in time in our Historic Farmhouse to participate in everyday pioneer chores like doin’ the wash and making butter. PeeWees will weave their own mini rag rugs just like pioneer women would have made!\n8/16- Bark Lodge and the Hunt\nCampers will go on a scavenger hunt for different animal hides that they’ll trade for beads. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Fridays at Gibbs Farm to explore a craft\, garden or kitchen heritage topic\, focusing on the lives of the pioneers and of the Dakota people who lived and visited at Gibbs Farm. \nFridays\, 10:00 am-4:00 pm \n\nJune 9\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Pest Control and Maintenance\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day.\nTwo presentations about pests and maintenance. Staff will lead an apple craft for children.\nJune 16\, 2017 – Dakota Moons\nArtist and Site Interpreter Peggy Stern will prepare a demonstration and hands on art activity based on the Dakota Moons. Two presentation times.\nJune 23\, 2017 – Dakota Trade Day\nPresentation by staff in Bark lodge with the Gibbs Dakota Collection about Dakota trade followed by bracelet making activity. Quillwork and Beadmaking Demonstration with resident Dakota artist David Louis at 2:30 pm\, his presentation is on-going\, drop in when you like.\nJune 30\, 2017- Pioneer and Dakota Cooking \nDemonstrations of cooking on outdoor wood stove\, and over a campfire. Two demonstrations\, 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.\nJuly 7\, 2017 – Animal Day\nVisitors can take an animal tour in addition to Dakota and Farmhouse tours. Say hello to our Pigs\, Goats\, Sheep\, Chickens\, Geese and Ducks. Learn about farm animals in Pioneer times.\nJuly 14\, 2017 – Blacksmithing\nTerry Robertson is a retired dentist who has been participating in blacksmithing at Gibbs for over 40 years. There will be a chance for audience participation while she demonstrates blacksmithing techniques on her coal-fired forge.\nJuly 21\, 2017 – Turtle Medicine Garden Day\nTwo presentations about native plants and their uses\, based on research and work done on our Medicine Garden this year thanks to a grant from the St. Paul Garden Club.\nJuly 28\, 2017 – Pioneer and Dakota Game Day\nStaff will lead games played by Pioneer and Dakota children\, and a crafting activity.\nAugust 4\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Apple Varieties\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day. Two presentations and tastings. Staff will lead an apple craft for children.\nAugust 11\, 2017 – School House\nSchoolhouse program with “Ms. Lake.” Two presentation times TBA.\nAugust 18\, 2017 – Bees\nBell museum staff will have a table and honeybees from 1-4 pm.\nGibbs Farm will lead a candle dipping activity every hour.\nAugust 25\, 2017 – Archaeology\nSite interpreter Kassie Bradshaw-Kmitch will lead a presentation on the 1995 Soddy Archaeological dig. PeeWees will get to take home their own nature journal!\n7/26- Pioneer Gardens\nCampers will take a walk through our Pioneer Garden and learn about the plants growing there. PeeWees will help our gardener by picking some of the ripe vegetables and then they’ll decorate their own clay pots to plant seeds in!\n8/2- All about Bees\nCampers will learn all about these important pollinators and how pioneers collected honey to eat and wax to make candles. PeeWees will dip a real beeswax candle to take home!\n8/9- Pioneer Chores\nCampers will get to go back in time in our Historic Farmhouse to participate in everyday pioneer chores like doin’ the wash and making butter. PeeWees will weave their own mini rag rugs just like pioneer women would have made!\n8/16- Bark Lodge and the Hunt\nCampers will go on a scavenger hunt for different animal hides that they’ll trade for beads. They’ll also learn about the Bark Lodge\, the type of home where the Dakota lived in the summer. PeeWees will bead their own Dakota bracelet!\n8/23- Tipi Life and Buffalo Nation\nCampers will experience what winter life in the Tipi was like for the Dakota. Hill and how he impacted early Saint Paul and became a national figure in business and transportation. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Fridays at Gibbs Farm to explore a craft\, garden or kitchen heritage topic\, focusing on the lives of the pioneers and of the Dakota people who lived and visited at Gibbs Farm. \nFridays\, 10:00 am-4:00 pm \n\nJune 9\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Pest Control and Maintenance\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day.\nTwo presentations about pests and maintenance. Staff will lead an apple craft for children.\nJune 16\, 2017 – Dakota Moons\nArtist and Site Interpreter Peggy Stern will prepare a demonstration and hands on art activity based on the Dakota Moons. Two presentation times.\nJune 23\, 2017 – Dakota Trade Day\nPresentation by staff in Bark lodge with the Gibbs Dakota Collection about Dakota trade followed by bracelet making activity. Quillwork and Beadmaking Demonstration with resident Dakota artist David Louis at 2:30 pm\, his presentation is on-going\, drop in when you like.\nJune 30\, 2017- Pioneer and Dakota Cooking \nDemonstrations of cooking on outdoor wood stove\, and over a campfire. Learn about farm animals in Pioneer times.\nJuly 14\, 2017 – Blacksmithing\nTerry Robertson is a retired dentist who has been participating in blacksmithing at Gibbs for over 40 years. There will be a chance for audience participation while she demonstrates blacksmithing techniques on her coal-fired forge.\nJuly 21\, 2017 – Turtle Medicine Garden Day\nTwo presentations about native plants and their uses\, based on research and work done on our Medicine Garden this year thanks to a grant from the St. Paul Garden Club.\nJuly 28\, 2017 – Pioneer and Dakota Game Day\nStaff will lead games played by Pioneer and Dakota children\, and a crafting activity.\nAugust 4\, 2017 – Orchard Day\, Apple Varieties\nGibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day. Two presentations and tastings. Staff will lead an apple craft for children.\nAugust 11\, 2017 – School House\nSchoolhouse program with “Ms. Lake.” Two presentation times TBA.\nAugust 18\, 2017 – Bees\nBell museum staff will have a table and honeybees from 1-4 pm.\nGibbs Farm will lead a candle dipping activity every hour.\nAugust 25\, 2017 – Archaeology\nSite interpreter Kassie Bradshaw-Kmitch will lead a presentation on the 1995 Soddy Archaeological dig. Visitors will be able to view artifacts from the dig.\n\n\nAdmission: $8 adults\, $7 seniors 62+\, $5 children ages 4-16. Whether learning about pioneer life in 1849 through this dig\, or searching for the Dakota trail that crossed the Gibbs farm\, archaeology has played an important role at the Gibbs historic site for years. \nCampers will learn about archaeology\, participate in hands-on digs at the site and much more. Each camp covers one pioneer or Dakota-related topic and includes an activity and a craft to take home. Snack included.\nPioneer PeeWees Online Registration Form \nPioneer PeeWees Camp Topics for 2017\n6/21- All about Sheep!\nCampers will learn all about how sheep were used on a pioneer farm. PeeWees will get to make and take home a pompom sheep!\n6/28- All about Pigs!\nCampers will get to know our two friendly pigs and learn why animals like them were important to pioneers. These PeeWees will make a pig-shaped cookie to take home!\n7/12- Ducks\, Geese\, and Chickens…Oh My!\nCampers will learn all about the different farm birds at Gibbs Farm. PeeWees will create their own chicken friend out of hollowed out eggs!\n7/19- What’s Alive on the Prairie?\nCampers will go on a scavenger hunt to see what critters (bugs\, animals\, or flowers) they can find in the prairie. PeeWees will get to take home their own nature journal!\n7/26- Pioneer Gardens\nCampers will take a walk through our Pioneer Garden and learn about the plants growing there. PeeWees will help our gardener by picking some of the ripe vegetables and then they’ll decorate their own clay pots to plant seeds in!\n8/2- All about Bees\nCampers will learn all about these important pollinators and how pioneers collected honey to eat and wax to make candles. PeeWees will dip a real beeswax candle to take home!\n8/9- Pioneer Chores\nCampers will get to go back in time in our Historic Farmhouse to participate in everyday pioneer chores like doin’ the wash and making butter. PeeWees will weave their own mini rag rugs just like pioneer women would have made!\n8/16- Bark Lodge and the Hunt\nCampers will go on a scavenger hunt for different animal hides that they’ll trade for beads. They’ll also learn about the Bark Lodge\, the type of home where the Dakota lived in the summer. PeeWees will bead their own Dakota bracelet!\n8/23- Tipi Life and Buffalo Nation\nCampers will experience what winter life in the Tipi was like for the Dakota. These PeeWees will hear a traditional Dakota story about the importance of the buffalo and will make their own mini tipi to take home!\n8/30- One-Room Schoolhouse\nCampers will experience what lessons were like in a one-room schoolhouse. PeeWees will sing their ABCs\, write on slate boards\, and read a story.
