Please call the office at 651-222-0701 or email robyn@rchs.com \nDon Luce\, Curator of Exhibits\, Bell Museum\, Windows into Nature: The Bell Museum’s Dioramas\nIn the early 1900s\, dioramas revolutionized American museums. By depicting wildlife as part of an ecological setting\, and highlighting places in need of preservation\, they played a critical role in building the conservation movement. The Bell Museum’s dioramas were created during the peak of the diorama era and are considered among the finest in the world. When the Bell Museum started to plan for a new facility\, moving and re-interpreting the dioramas was a central concern. \nIn this talk\, Don will trace the history of dioramas\, introduce the artists and naturalists who created the dioramas here in Minnesota\, and discuss the process of moving and re-imagining them for the new Bell Museum \nAbout Don Luce\, Curator of Exhibits\, Bell Museum\, University of Minnesota \nDon Luce has worked in the museum world for four decades. He earned a degree in Zoology and a master degree in Medical and Biological Illustration from the University of Michigan. At the Bell Museum\, he has combined his interests in science\, art and nature to produce original temporary and permanent exhibitions. Exhibition topics included art and nature\, ecology\, evolution\, animal behavior\, endangered species\, and current University research. Many of these exhibitions toured nationally as part of Bell Museum’s Touring Exhibition Service. \nAs curator of exhibits\, he also curates the museum’s collection of art\, which includes many works by Francis Lee Jaques who painted the museum’s dioramas\, a complete set of John James Audubon’s original Birds of America folio\, and many other historical and contemporary works of wildlife art. \nFor nearly two decades\, Don has worked on plans for a new Bell Museum. The project included the move and restoration of the museums historic dioramas\, and the design of new permanent exhibition galleries. \nDon also remains active as an illustrator and artist. He illustrated books such as Minnesota’s Natural Heritage by John Tester\, and has been an artist-in-residence with the National Park Service. DESCRIPTION:Ramsey County Historical Society Presents\nBill Lindeke\, Saint Paul – Then & Now\n\nHistory Revealed Series\nSeptember 27\, 2018\nThursday\, 7:00 pm\nRamsey County Roseville Library\nFree and open to all. \nJoin RCHS for History Revealed\, our program series featuring presentations and tours from the best of local historians\, authors and archaeologists\, with a wide range of topics drawn from the heritage and traditions of Ramsey County. \nLocked together in an affectionate sibling rivalry\, Minneapolis and its twin city St. Paul are constantly growing and changing. Geographer & author Bill Lindeke will discuss how the Twin Cities have developed from simple trading posts on the banks of the Mississippi in “the land of 10\,000 lakes\,” and will show photos from his new coffee table book\, “Minneapolis-St. Paul: Then and Now” (Pavilion Press). \nBill will highlight the most interesting places in Saint Paul and the Twin Cities that show the most change from the 19th century to current times with historic and current photographs and offer in-depth descriptions of the sites. The “then” photos are historic images which range from the 1870s to the 1950s. The “now” photos were taken in the summer of 2017 by Karl Mondon of San Francisco\, California. Bill will also show sites that “didn’t make the cut” into the book. \n“Minneapolis-St. Paul Then and Now” has historic and current photos with historical narrative captions for over one hundred historic sites in Minneapolis\, Saint Paul\, South Saint Paul\, Edina\, and the Fort Snelling Unorganized Territory. \nThe book will be available for purchase and signing at the presentation. \nPlease Note: The Roseville Library does not have an available connection that allows us to take credit cards\, so we are not always able to accommodate credit card sales. Cash and checks will be accepted. \nBill Lindeke is an urban geographer who writes\, researches\, and gives tours about the Twin Cities. See our History Revealed page here for more programs\, past and future. \nHistorian and co-founder of the East Side Freedom Library Peter Rachleff (shown in center of photo\, above)\, will lead a 90 minute walking tour on Saint Paul’s East Side. The tour will use Payne Avenue as a spine along which to follow the experiences of such 19th century immigrants as Swedes\, Irish\, Germans\, and Italians\, to those of our contemporary neighbors\, such as Hmong\, Somali\, Mexican\, and Karen. The tour will explore the political\, economic\, and cultural forces which prompted emigration from homelands\, on the one hand\, and the patterns of settlement and organization in St. Paul\, on the other. \n\nReservations are required. As settler and immigrant populations flourished and transformed\, so too did the beer industry in Minnesota\, reflecting new cultural influences. \nDoug Hoverson teaches social studies and coaches the debate team at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights\, Minnesota. He is associate editor of American Breweriana Journal\, an award-winning homebrewer\, and a certified beer judge. Gardner\, Our Minnesota State Capitol: From Groundbreaking through Restoration\n\nHistory Revealed Landmark Lunch Series\nSeptember 12\, 2018\nWednesday\, noon\nLandmark Center\nFree and open to all. \nJoin RCHS for History Revealed\, our program series featuring presentations and tours from the best of local historians\, authors and archaeologists\, with a wide range of topics drawn from the heritage and traditions of Ramsey County. \nFrom gleaming marble and vibrant art to new public spaces\, the Minnesota State Capitol’s $310 million renovation—the largest preservation effort since it opened in 1905—is complete. The Capitol now offers more public space\, and the building’s historic furniture\, artwork\, and interior decorations have been restored to their 1905 appearance. Learn about the history and rehabilitation of this iconic building from Denis P. Gardner\, Minnesota’s National Register Historian at the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office. Gardner is the author of the recently-released book Our Minnesota State Capitol: From Groundbreaking through Restoration. \nThe Minnesota State Capitol is both an architectural masterpiece and a revered public building. This beautiful Renaissance Revival structure is the heart of the state’s civic life\, a place for celebrations\, demonstrations\, arguments\, and accomplishments. It’s where history happens. \n\n\n\n\nCompleted in 1905\, the capitol is a grand building on a grand scale\, and it reflected Minnesota’s growing cosmopolitanism. Noted architect Cass Gilbert won the design competition and then fought ferociously to see his vision built. At construction\, the capitol was a marvel of modern engineering\, with its own heating plant and the second-largest self-supported marble dome in the world. And more than a century later\, after a meticulous renovation in 2015–17\, the building glows again with its original beauty. \nThis book includes stories of the capitol’s construction and restoration\, laborers and craftspeople\, fine art and furnishings\, and politics and protests. It features remarkable photographs\, recently saved from a dumpster\, that document the original construction. And it celebrates this beloved building’s continued life at the center of the state’s civic culture. \n\n\n\n\nDenis P. Gardner is the National Register Historian at the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office in St. Paul\, where he reviews the eligibility of properties for the National Register of Historic Places. His talk will encompass many of the issues that faced environmentalists in the history of our state. His new book\, Iron and Water\, My Life Protecting Minnesota’s Environment (University of Minnesota Press 2018) will be available for purchase and signing. \n \n\nIron and Water is Grant J. Merritt’s memoir of his life’s work on behalf of Minnesota’s people and environment and also the story of a family significant in state history. Chronicling the discovery of vast iron deposits on the Mesabi Range and the fight to save Lake Superior and Minnesota’s natural riches\, Merritt reveals how individuals can change the world. \nBorn in Duluth in 1934\, Grant Merritt has demonstrated his deep commitment to environmental issues throughout his distinguished career. A practicing attorney for the law firm of Kalina\, Wills\, Gisvold & Clark\, P.L.L.P.\, Merritt worked in the areas of environmental regulation and litigation\, transportation\, municipal law\, governmental relations\, and real estate. In addition\, Merritt is a member of the Anoka County Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association\, secretary and board member of the Canada-Minnesota Business Council and board member for Clean Water Action. Merritt also served as Commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) from 1971-1975 and as a member of the Great Lakes Water Quality Board from 1972-1975. DESCRIPTION:Ramsey County Historical Society Presents\nStephen Osman\, Fort Snelling & the Civil War: Daily Lives\n\nHistory Revealed: A Toast to History at Waldmann Series\nThursday\, August 9\, 2018\nWaldmann Brewery & Wurstery\nFree and open to all. \nJoin RCHS for History Revealed\, our program series featuring presentations and tours from the best of local historians\, authors and archaeologists\, with a wide range of topics drawn from the heritage and traditions of Ramsey County. \n\nOne hundred fifty years ago our state offered the first volunteers to defend the Union. Every Minnesota soldier passed through historic Fort Snelling\, reactivated after it had been sold to a developer. The Fort eventually expanded to include several large camps of Native Americans\, massive stock yards\, huge warehouses\, and secure barracks for draftees before reverting to a supply depot in 1865. \n\nStephen Osman will share some of the letters\, stories and daily lives of the soldiers and civilians who lived\, worked\, and fought at Fort Snelling during the Civil War and the Dakota Conflict. The challenges faced by these young men\, many of whom had never been more than a few miles away from their out-state family farms before\, were daunting. And the Fort was not always in suitable shape to hold the vast influx of arriving recruits. Stephen will share these challenges and show images from his new book\, Fort Snelling and the Civil War\, published by RCHS. Books will be available for signing and for purchase. \n \nStephen Osman managed Historic Fort Snelling for over three decades and actively researches\, speaks and writes about Minnesota’s role in the Civil War and the U.S. Dakota War of 1862. Osman served with the US Army Reserve in Psychological Operations at Fort Snelling\, and has served on the boards of the Minnesota Military Museum\, the Friends of Fort Snelling\, the Twin Cities Civil War Roundtable. \nRegistration is needed to attend presentations. From the State Fair’s national leadership in the campaign to “Win the War with Food\,” to large war exhibits\, military pageants\, and Grandstand shows depicting major battles\, discover the fascinating history of Minnesota’s beloved State Fair during this challenging era. \nMark Haidet\nMark Haidet worked for the Minnesota Historical Society for more than 36 years – 10 years as a historian and 26 years in the Development Office. As Director of Development for the program’s first 16 years\, he built a comprehensive program and led three major campaigns for the Minnesota History Center\, Mill City Museum and the Greatest Generation Project. He closed his career with three years at the State Fair Foundation where he completed the campaign to build the Fair’s new History & Heritage Center. See our History Revealed page here for more programs\, past and future. \nHistorian and co-founder of the East Side Freedom Library Peter Rachleff (shown in center of photo\, above)\, will lead a 90 minute walking tour on Saint Paul’s East Side. The tour will use Payne Avenue as a spine along which to follow the experiences of such 19th century immigrants as Swedes\, Irish\, Germans\, and Italians\, to those of our contemporary neighbors\, such as Hmong\, Somali\, Mexican\, and Karen. The tour will explore the political\, economic\, and cultural forces which prompted emigration from homelands\, on the one hand\, and the patterns of settlement and organization in St. Paul\, on the other. \n\nReservations are required. The Minneapolis Brewing Company introduced the iconic Grain Belt beer in 1893\, and it remains a local favorite. Fur trapper and bootlegger Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant established a St. Paul tavern along the banks of the Mississippi River in the early 1800s. The area has been home to some of the best-known beer brands in America\, from Hamm’s and Schmidt’s to Yoerg’s and Olympia. Today\, microbreweries such as Bad Weather Brewing\, Summit Brewing and more than fifty others are forging new avenues. Join author Scott Carlson as he offers an intriguing history and guide to Twin Cities beer. \nAbout the author: \nScott Carlson is a Twin Cities journalist and writer. He spent nearly thirty years at the St. Paul Pioneer Press\, where he won numerous awards for his work. Most recently\, Scott served as a research associate in the Community Broadband Networks initiative at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance and as a media relations and communications consultant. Scott has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota and a juris doctorate from the William Mitchell College of Law (now known as the Hamline Mitchell School of Law). She was working at the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1890 at the time of the Wounded Knee Massacre. She met and fell in love with Dr. Charles Eastman\, a noted Native American medical doctor who was the physician at the reservation during the tragedy. \nThey married in 1891 and moved to St. Paul in 1893 where they lived until 1897. See our History Revealed page here for more programs\, past and future. \nHistorian and author Paul Nelson will lead a one-hour walking tour to discover the geologic “rocky roots” of downtown Saint Paul. The tour will look at the stones that form Landmark Center\, the Central Library\, the former Qwest telephone building\, and St. Paul City Hall/Ramsey County Courthouse. The tour will also look at formations of Platteville limestone\, Morton gneiss and Lake Superior sandstone that are part of downtown structures. T \nThe tour will meet and will end up back at Landmark Center. \nCopies of Rocky Roots: Geology & Stone Construction in Downtown St. Paul\, by Sister Joan Kain and Paul Nelson\, published by the Ramsey County Historical Society will be available prior and after the tour from RCHS. DESCRIPTION:Ramsey County Historical Society Presents\nKim Heikkila\, To Bear the Mark: Unwed Motherhood at the Salvation Army’s Booth Memorial Hospital\, 1913-1973 (or\, History\, My Mother\, and Me)\n\nHistory Revealed Series\nMarch 22\, 2018\nThursday\, 7:00 pm\nRamsey County Roseville Library\nFree and open to all. \nJoin RCHS for History Revealed\, our program series featuring presentations and tours from the best of local historians\, authors and archaeologists\, with a wide range of topics drawn from the heritage and traditions of Ramsey County. \nFor 75 years\, the Salvation Army in St. Paul operated a maternity home and hospital for unwed mothers. Booth Memorial Hospital housed thousands of young women who sought refuge – sometimes willingly\, sometimes not — from the public censure that their status usually elicited. In the early twentieth century\, mothers were encouraged to keep and raise their babies\, but after World War II\, public and expert opinion suggested that surrendering these “illegitimate” babies for adoption was the best solution – for mother\, baby\, and a deserving couple facing infertility. By the 1960s\, at the peak of the maternity home movement\, approximately 70% of single mothers at Booth relinquished their children for adoption. \nDr. Kim Heikkila’s mother was one of these women; she delivered her first daughter\, Dr. Heikkila’s half-sister\, at Booth in 1961\, surrendered her for adoption\, and kept the whole experience a secret for 33 years\, until that daughter found her long-lost birth mother. \nIn this talk\, Dr. Heikkila will explore the intersection of her mother’s story with the history of Booth Memorial Hospital and the experiences of seven former “Booth girls” with whom she conducted oral history interviews. \n  \n \nKim Heikkila has a doctorate in American Studies\, with a minor in Feminist Studies\, from the University of Minnesota. She has written about Booth Memorial Hospital for Ramsey County History and Minnesota History\, and has published several personal essays about her mother’s experiences as a birth mother and her own as an adoptive mother. She recently completed an oral history project with former Booth residents\, staff\, and related personnel\, which was sponsored by the Minnesota Independent Scholars Forum with funding from a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage grant. Her first book\, Sisterhood of War: Minnesota Women in Vietnam (Minnesota Historical Society Press\, 2011)\, was a finalist for a 2012 Minnesota Book Award. DESCRIPTION:Ramsey County Historical Society is proud to partner with TPT-Twin Cities PBS to produce a ground-breaking new documentary\, North Star: Civil War Stories\, which uncovers hidden details of African-American men from Minnesota involved in the Civil War. Using emerging research and scholarship\, North Star: Civil War Stories looks at the lives and contributions of these men during and after the war. \nFour stories bring to light the hidden histories of African American Minnesotans during and after the Civil War. Van Spence\, courtesy of The Meeker County Historical Society \nDaniel Pierce Bergin is Senior Producer & Partnership Manager for Twin Cities Public Television. He was a Production Fellow for the PBS documentary Slavery by Another Name\, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Bergin won a regional Emmy Award for Slavery By Another Name: Behind the Scenes. His other notable productions include regional Emmy-winners Asian Flavors\, North Star: Minnesota’s Black Pioneers; Lowertown: The Rise of an Urban Village; Cass Gilbert: Standing the Test of Time. His literary history documentary\, Literature & Life: The Givens Collection was named “Best History Documentary” at the Prized Pieces International Black Film Festival. His documentary With Impunity: Men & Gender Violence was named “Best Documentary of 2012” by Mpls/St. Paul Magazine. In addition to long-form documentary work\, Bergin received a regional Emmy award for Legacy Letters\, a PSA series about celebrating and protecting Minnesota’s natural\, historical\, and cultural heritage. Bergin produced exhibit videos for the Science Museum of Minnesota’s award-winning touring exhibit “Race: Are We So Different?” He also produced a companion program for broadcast. \nThe filmmaker’s short narrative films have screened at the American Film Institute\, the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival\, The Wexner Center\, and the Hollywood Black Film Festival.  In the 1990s\, Daniel Bergin produced the ground breaking “Don’t Believe the Hype\,” TPT’s Emmy award winning youth media program. \nThe Minneapolis native and University of Minnesota graduate has served as a director on the boards of several community media organizations including Intermedia Arts\, St. Paul Neighborhood Network\, Hennepin Theatre Trust\, and IFP MN. He was on the Walker Art Center’s Parent Advisory Council. Daniel is an adjunct instructor at St. Cloud State University. He has been recognized as a MN State Arts Board Fellow\, a 2003 Twin Cities Business Journal’s “40 under 40”\, a City Pages Artist of the Year\, attended the esteemed PBS Producers Academy\, and was awarded a Bush Leadership Fellowship for his work in community media. \nWilliam (Bill) Green received his B.A. in History from Gustavus Adolphus College\, and his M.A.\, Ph.D. and J.D. from the University of Minnesota. He has published articles\, op-ed pieces\, and book chapters on history\, law\, and education\, and he has published two books on race and civil rights in Minnesota history-A Peculiar Imbalance in Early Minnesota: 1837-1869\, and Degrees of Freedom: The Origin of Civil Rights in Minnesota\, 1865-1914\, which won the 2015 Minnesota Book Award-Hognander Prize. He is presently working on a history of Minnesota during the period of the Civil War and Reconstruction. \nBill has spoken widely at such places as the Ramsey County Bar Association; Bethel Lutheran Church\, the Friends of the Ramsey County Library; Unity Unitarian Universalist Church in St. Paul\, and William Mitchell Law School. He has also lectured at Peabody College-Vanderbilt University\, St. John’s University\, and Lincoln College-Oxford University. See our History Revealed page here for more programs\, past and future. \nIn ten unsuccessful runs at the U.S. Presidency\, Harold Stassen became infamous as a perennial candidate. But his lifetime of achievements\, as Minnesota’s “boy governor\,” as a war hero\, as a founder of the United Nations\, as a nationally prominent Republican – are now mostly forgotten. Steve Werle will re-introduce us to Harold Stassen\, his life\, and his legacy in this presentation. Copies of Steve’s book on Harold Stassen\, “Stassen Again” will be available for purchase and for signing. \nDuring a lifetime devoted to public service\, Governor Harold Stassen left an indelible mark upon American politics. He first gained national prominence in the 1930s by revitalizing Minnesota’s Republican Party and establishing a progressive\, cooperative approach to state government. Although his numerous achievements are often obscured by his seemingly relentless quest to become president\, Stassen contributed greatly to the cause of international peace following World War II. Mr. Werle will lead participants in an engaging and entertaining walk down memory lane as he explores Stassen’s political journey with candid\, comic\, and original insights. \nSteve Werle was born and raised in Rochester\, Minnesota and teaches Advanced Placement United States History in the Twin Cities. He graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1994 with a B.A.A. in Teaching Secondary Social Studies and earned a master’s degree from the same institution in 1999. He has taught a variety of high school history courses for over twenty years and also serves (pun totally intended) as a varsity tennis coach. Each summer Werle bakes thousands of Sweet Martha’s Cookies at the Minnesota State Fair. \nMr. Werle is the author of An American Gothic: The Life & Times & Legacy of William Gates LeDuc. His most recent book\, Stassen Again\, was published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press in 2015 and is available wherever books are sold. DESCRIPTION:Ramsey County Historical Society presents \nGreg Brick\, Minnesota Caves: History and Lore\nHistory Revealed Series\nJanuary 25\, 2018\nThursday\, 7:00 pm\nRamsey County Roseville Library\nFree and open to all. \nJoin RCHS for History Revealed in 2018\, featuring the best of local history authors\, historians and archaeologists talking about a wide range of topics drawn from the heritage and traditions of Ramsey County. \nMinnesota Caves: History and Lore (Arcadia Publishing\, 2017) is Greg’s third book on caves and the first book on this exact topic in 50 years. This powerpoint tour of Minnesota caves highlights the caves with significant narrative history\, illustrated with historic images\, never before published\, from the National Cave Museum in Kentucky. While most of the caves still exist\, many are not publicly accessible\, and some never did exist except in the minds of explorers. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. \nGreg Brick Ph.D. was employed as a hydrogeologist at several environmental consulting firms\, has taught geology at local colleges and universities\, and now works on the Minnesota Spring Inventory at the Department of Natural Resources. He has edited the Journal of Spelean History since 2003\, published more than 100 articles about caves\, and was the recipient of the 2005 Cave History Award from the National Speleological Society. His first book\, Iowa Underground: A Guide to the State’s Subterranean Treasures\, was published by Trails Media Group in 2004. His second book\, Subterranean Twin Cities\, published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2009\, won an award from the American Institute of Architects. His work has been featured in National Geographic Adventure magazine as well as on the History Channel. DESCRIPTION:Ramsey County Historical Society Presents\nJohn Watson Milton\, For the Good of the Order: Nick Coleman\n\nHistory Revealed Series\nNovember 30\, 2017\nThursday\, 7:00 pm\nRamsey County Roseville Library\nFree and open to all. \nJoin RCHS for a new series\, History Revealed\, featuring the best of local history authors talking about a wide range of topics drawn from the heritage and traditions of Ramsey County. \nJohn Watson Milton will present the story of Nick Coleman\, the son of Irish immigrants who was an influential Minnesota state senator in the 1960’s and 1970’s\, and had an unsuccessful run for Governor. Coleman was instrumental in changing the Minnesota legislative branch and its agenda to a more progressive and respected one\, and was also instrumental in passing many reforms\, including the “Minnesota Miracle\,” legislation that shifted the burden for public education from property taxes to a more progressive state income tax. The presentation will touch on Coleman’s work and accomplishments\, the many great leaders he worked with from both sides of the political line\, and his legacy to Minnesota\, the nation and his family. \nMilton is the author of For the Good of the Order\, Nick Coleman and the High Tide of Liberal Politics in Minnesota\, published by RCHS. Books will be available for purchase. \n \nJohn Watson Milton was born in St. Paul\, Minnesota. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton and the Woodrow Wilson School; he also studied at the Harvard School of Business. At Princeton he was the editorial chairman of The Daily Princetonian. Milton has published a wide variety of written works\, including poetry\, essay\, recipes\, speeches and short stories. He has written numerous articles for Ramsey County History magazine\, and authored For the Good of the Order\, Nick Coleman and the High Tide of Liberal Politics in Minnesota\, published by RCHS. His biographical novel\, The Fallen Nightingale\, won two national awards for historical fiction. The author lives with his Panamanian-born wife\, Maureen Angélica Acosta\, on a small farm in Afton\, Minnesota\, where he writes and grows wine-grapes. \nAs a Princeton sophomore\, Milton received a piece of valuable advice from Nobel Laureate Ernest Hemingway\, who told him: “If you’re a writer\, you write. No matter what happened last night\, no matter how much you drank\, no matter whose bed you climbed out of in the morning\, you write. Or you may call Gibbs Farm directly at 651-646-8629 to register. \nGibbs Farm is offering an exciting\, fun\, and educational experience for your kids for MEA 2017. This half-day or full-day camp is for kids ages 6-10. Campers will have the opportunity to experience a day filled with Dakota and pioneer activities and crafts\, including caring for your animals\, dipping a real beeswax candle\, visiting our one-room schoolhouse and much more! They will also get a special treat\, our famous homemade ice cream. \nHalf Day: $29\nFull Day: $49 \nImportant Note: If you would like to register for a Day Camp within 2 days of the start of camp\,\nplease call the Gibbs Farm directly at 651-646-8629 to register. \nOur camps are held rain or shine – dress for the weather! Part of each camp day is spent out of doors\, in case of bad weather\, camp will be held inside site buildings. \nReservations are required and must be prepaid for all camps.\nOne week notice of cancellation is needed in order to receive a refund.

DESCRIPTION:Apple Crafts\, Apple Games\, Apple Fun!\nGibbs Farm Apple Festival\nIncluded in general admission:\n$8 adults\, $7 seniors 62+\, $5 children 3 and up\nFree for RCHS members \nJoin us for a day of apple fun for all ages! There will be live music by Light of the Moon\, games\, treats\, crafts\, tours and a special visiting exhibit\, plus the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota! We’ll have plenty of apple entertainment for families\, students and adults! \nThe details: Apple fun starts at 10:00am and goes until 4:00pm. No need for reservations\, stop by anytime.  Activities\, treats\, and tours are included in admission. $8 Adults\, $7 Seniors\, $5 Children (ages 4-16). Bring your Ramsey County Historical Society Membership card for free admission! \nTake a tour and learn about heritage varieties in our Heritage Apple Orchard. Meet Johnny Appleseed. Our knowledgeable volunteers will be available to answer your toughest apple questions \nOur new neighbor\, The Bell Museum of Natural History will join in on the fun by bringing over a pop-up museum! The Bell will be bringing their traveling beehives\, models of flowers and food\, and a microscope activity\, so you can discover the special role that pollinators play in our food production. \nGet creative!  Make apple crafts to take home! Craft activities include\, apple block prints\, dried apple necklaces\, and apple magnets. Play apple games and listen to apple stories and apple lore! \nWatch the artists from Outdoor Painters of Minnesota as they create beautiful works of art directly on the Gibbs Farm site! The artists will be available to answer questions about their processes and will be capturing the day as it unfolds and the beauty of Gibbs Farm in the Fall. Some works of art may be for sale. \nTreats! In addition to heritage variety sampling and mini caramel apple dipping\, you can head over to the red barn for a special apple treat served with our famous homemade vanilla ice cream and seasonal beverages. \nNeed something more substantial for an entire day of apple fun? We’re excited to host Fork in the Road Food Truck (see their menu here). Or\, feel free to bring your own picnic lunch. Picnic tables are available. Please\, no grills. \nFind what life was like in the 1800’s before and after Minnesota became a state\, our site interpreters will give tours of Dakota seasonal life and the historic Gibbs farmhouse throughout the day. \nApple Festival is a great time to sign up for an annual membership. Ramsey County Historical Society Members get free admission to Gibbs Farm\, including festivals! Other perks include our award winning magazine\, discounts in the gift shop\, on day camps\, and RCHS events offered throughout the year! \n
