SUMMARY:Happy Holidays
DESCRIPTION:RCHS & Gibbs Farm wishes you and yours a very festive and happy Holiday Season!\nWe thank all of our supporters at RCHS and Gibbs Farm\, you are fulfilling our wishes for a great 2016! \nThe image above is from a 1922 postcard\, printer unknown\, and features a rather athletic Santa strewing wreaths with the legend: “I am scattering my Christmas Wishes far and wide\, – So to You my Friend\, the Best I have I send.” \nThe beautiful card below features a center panel with a lovely piece of embroidery. Postcard with embroidered insert within a holly leaf shaped frame\, labelled “Wesolych Swiat! Bozego Narodzenia\,” translation from Polish\, “Merry Christmas.” The embossed date on the card appears to be ©1916 J.P.N.Y. \nCards are part of the RCHS image & postcard collection. The database of the collection is available here. \nEmbroidered Christmas card.\n

SUMMARY:In Honor of Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:In Honor of Pearl Harbor \nIn honor of the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that ushered the US into WWII on December 7\, 1941\, at 7:48 am\, we want to thank all the service men and women from Ramsey County and throughout the US\, and their families. The destroyer U.S.S. Ward and her mostly Saint Paul crew have been credited for firing the first shot of WWII (by the United States)\, sinking a Japanese submarine at the mouth of Pearl Harbor an hour before the air attack. First launched in 1918\, the photo is of the burning of the U.S.S. Ward from an air strike\, three years to the day after the attack at Pearl Harbor. All the crew survived this air strike. \nFor more on this story\, see Ramsey County History\, Winter 1991\, Vol. 26\, #4

SUMMARY:HIV/AIDS Oral History Project
DESCRIPTION:Help RCHS Save Lives:\nThe HIV/AIDS Oral History Project\nRCHS is collecting oral histories to save lives. We are documenting the appalling gap between identifying HIV/AIDS as a health crisis and the full-scale response required to develop effective treatments\, a delay that allowed the deaths of thousands. A total of 35 oral histories are being recorded and the results are being provided to lawmakers across the country to encourage faster responses to current and future medical crisis. The project recently received a matching $10\,000 challenge grant from the Jay & Rose Phillips Family Foundation of Minnesota. \nYou can help – learn more here!
