Join us on Fridays at Gibbs Farm to explore a craft, garden or kitchen heritage topic, focusing on the lives of the pioneers and of the Dakota people who lived and visited at Gibbs Farm.

- June 9, 2017 – Orchard Day, Pest Control and Maintenance
Gibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day.
Two presentations about pests and maintenance. Staff will lead an apple craft for children. - June 16, 2017 – Dakota Moons
Artist and Site Interpreter Peggy Stern will prepare a demonstration and hands on art activity based on the Dakota Moons. Two presentation times. - June 23, 2017 – Dakota Trade Day
Presentation by staff in Bark lodge with the Gibbs Dakota Collection about Dakota trade followed by bracelet making activity. Quillwork and Beadmaking Demonstration with resident Dakota artist David Louis at 2:30 pm, his presentation is on-going, drop in when you like. - June 30, 2017- Pioneer and Dakota Cooking
Demonstrations of cooking on outdoor wood stove, and over a campfire. Two demonstrations, 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. - July 7, 2017 – Animal Day
Visitors can take an animal tour in addition to Dakota and Farmhouse tours. Say hello to our Pigs, Goats, Sheep, Chickens, Geese and Ducks. Learn about farm animals in Pioneer times. - July 14, 2017 – Blacksmithing
Terry Robertson is a retired dentist who has been participating in blacksmithing at Gibbs for over 40 years. There will be a chance for audience participation while she demonstrates blacksmithing techniques on her coal-fired forge. - July 21, 2017 – Turtle Medicine Garden Day
Two presentations about native plants and their uses, based on research and work done on our Medicine Garden this year thanks to a grant from the St. Paul Garden Club. - July 28, 2017 – Pioneer and Dakota Game Day
Staff will lead games played by Pioneer and Dakota children, and a crafting activity. - August 4, 2017 – Orchard Day, Apple Varieties
Gibbs Farm Heritage Orchard will be open to the public and staffed by volunteers all day. Two presentations and tastings. Staff will lead an apple craft for children. - August 11, 2017 – School House
Schoolhouse program with “Ms. Lake.” Two presentation times TBA. - August 18, 2017 – Bees
Bell museum staff will have a table and honeybees from 1-4 pm.
Gibbs Farm will lead a candle dipping activity every hour. - August 25, 2017 – Archaeology
Site interpreter Kassie Bradshaw-Kmitch will lead a presentation on the 1995 Soddy Archaeological dig. Visitors will be able to view artifacts from the dig.
Admission: $8 adults, $7 seniors 62+, $5 children ages 4-16. Free for RCHS members.
Each topic will include a brief history and hands-on activity to take home. Topics will be listed on our website, watch for more information.
Programs are open to all.
Free parking in our Gibbs Farm lot.
