Evenings at Gibbs: June Farmhouse Tour

June 29, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Our Evening Farmhouse tour is back with a twist!

Ramsey County Historical Society and Gibbs Farm staff are incredibly excited to welcome Members and guests back for in-person programming. The Evenings at Gibbs event series is a chance for adults to enjoy history and snacks in the beautiful and educational 8-acre Gibbs Farm setting.

Jane and Heman Gibbs purchased 160 acres of land in the new Minnesota Territory in 1849, shortly after their marriage. For the first five years they lived in a sod house before eventually building a log cabin in 1853. As they expanded their family and their farm business they added and improved on this log cabin, adding a parlor, bedrooms and a summer kitchen. The Gibbs Family lived on this land for over 100 years. The farmhouse was purchased by the newly created Ramsey County Historical Society in 1949 and has been an educational space ever since.

Site manager Sammy Nelson will lead guests through the rooms of the Farmhouse, connecting the Gibbs Family story to the larger historical context of Minnesota’s early statehood. This tour is great for first time visitors and longtime supporters of Gibbs Farm, as Sammy will highlight some of her favorite rediscovered facts and anecdotes from her winter research project.

Check-in starts at 5:30, grab a drink, visit the farm animals and check out the gardens before the tour begins at 6:00.
