Some say business and historic preservation don’t mix. ‘Not so,’ says Tom Schroeder, developer and owner of Waldmann Brewery in St. Paul–‘You just have to give it a good shake.’ In this ‘kiss and tell’ description of his discovery, restoration and ultimate reopening in 2017 of a Territorial Period lager beer saloon near downtown St. Paul–Tom provides a candid retelling of the story of Waldmann: what went well and what didn’t, how politics and good intentions collide, the surprising role of our preservation bureaucracy and ultimately how no good deed goes unpunished.
Tom Schroeder, Waldmann’s owner, will present numerous images, historic context and notable vignettes from the story of Waldmann itself.
