In Honor of Pearl Harbor
In honor of the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that ushered the US into WWII on December 7, 1941, at 7:48 am, we want to thank all the service men and women from Ramsey County and throughout the US, and their families. The destroyer U.S.S. Ward and her mostly Saint Paul crew have been credited for firing the first shot of WWII (by the United States), sinking a Japanese submarine at the mouth of Pearl Harbor an hour before the air attack. First launched in 1918, the photo is of the burning of the U.S.S. Ward from an air strike, three years to the day after the attack at Pearl Harbor. All the crew survived this air strike.
