We have created a great mix of exciting summer day camps for children ages 4-13.

Pioneer PeeWees

Ages 4-5
The perfect camp for younger children! Each camp covers one pioneer or Dakota-related topic and includes an activity and a craft to take home. Snack included.

Pioneer PeeWees Camp Topics for 2017

6/21- All about Sheep!
Campers will learn all about how sheep were used on a pioneer farm. PeeWees will get to make and take home a pompom sheep!
6/28- All about Pigs!
Campers will get to know our two friendly pigs and learn why animals like them were important to pioneers. These PeeWees will make a pig-shaped cookie to take home!
7/12- Ducks, Geese, and Chickens…Oh My!
Campers will learn all about the different farm birds at Gibbs Farm. PeeWees will create their own chicken friend out of hollowed out eggs!
7/19- What’s Alive on the Prairie?
Campers will go on a scavenger hunt to see what critters (bugs, animals, or flowers) they can find in the prairie. PeeWees will get to take home their own nature journal!
7/26- Pioneer Gardens
Campers will take a walk through our Pioneer Garden and learn about the plants growing there. PeeWees will help our gardener by picking some of the ripe vegetables and then they’ll decorate their own clay pots to plant seeds in!
8/2- All about Bees
Campers will learn all about these important pollinators and how pioneers collected honey to eat and wax to make candles. PeeWees will dip a real beeswax candle to take home!
8/9- Pioneer Chores
Campers will get to go back in time in our Historic Farmhouse to participate in everyday pioneer chores like doin’ the wash and making butter. PeeWees will weave their own mini rag rugs just like pioneer women would have made!
8/16- Bark Lodge and the Hunt
Campers will go on a scavenger hunt for different animal hides that they’ll trade for beads. They’ll also learn about the Bark Lodge, the type of home where the Dakota lived in the summer. PeeWees will bead their own Dakota bracelet!
8/23- Tipi Life and Buffalo Nation
Campers will experience what winter life in the Tipi was like for the Dakota. These PeeWees will hear a traditional Dakota story about the importance of the buffalo and will make their own mini tipi to take home!
8/30- One-Room Schoolhouse
Campers will experience what lessons were like in a one-room schoolhouse. PeeWees will sing their ABCs, write on slate boards, and read a story. Children will take home a Gibbs ruler and pencil!

MEA Day

Children ages 6-10

Reservations

Reservations are required and must be prepaid for all camps.
One week notice of cancellation is needed in order to receive a refund.

To enroll in 2017 Summer Day Camps, you may:

  • Use our online registration forms, available soon.
  • Print out the 2017 Gibbs Day Camps pdf form and mail, available in early spring 2017.
  • Contact Gibbs Farm at 651-646-8629.
  • Use our Contact Us form.

Important Note: If you would like to register for a Day Camp within 2 days of the start of camp, please call the Gibbs Farm directly at 651-646-8629 to register.

Part of each camp day is spent out of door; campers should dress for the weather.
Camps are held rain or shine; in case of bad weather, camp will be held inside site buildings.
