HIV/AIDS Healthcare Worker Oral History Collection

Materials includes newsletters and magazine articles describing the Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Studies at the University of Minnesota, and the purpose and scope of the Minnesota HIV/AIDS Healthcare Worker Oral History Project. The bulk of the collection consists of oral history transcripts of healthcare workers who cared for Minnesota patients during the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Two books are included: one is a compilation of other health care worker oral histories from around the country while the other is a history of the various Gay-Lesbian-Transgender-Bisexual communities in Minnesota.

This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society.

John W. Greenman Collection

1923-2015 [2023.107]

This collection contains materials related to Lt. John Greenman’s time as a pilot in World War II. On April 25, 1945, his plane was shot down over Austria. Greenman’s plane crew consisted of ten men, eight of whom were taken prisoner. One evaded capture, and another was hospitalized. All ten men survived. Items are organized into twelve folders by subject. The majority of the box is filled with testimonies and letters of the time Greenman and his crew were shot down, some written by the crew years later, and others written by the parents of the crew, which included: Cleo Anderson, Donald Bechen, Erskine Blankesnship, Fred Funk, George Bruyere, John Dominey, John Greenman, Theodore Tronoff, and William Przybysz.

Collection contains slides, black and white photographs, meeting minutes, event programs, schedules of events [meetings, lectures, flower shows, etc – 1950s], member lists, bylaws, Treasurer’s book [financial records – 1950s-1970s], occasional handwritten annotations.
